We are very excited to share this New Zealand wedding! Today is fitting because it’s Hoani & Katie’s first wedding anniversary (and ours too – six years whoop whoop). We can say it, this was one of THE BEST weddings we have been part of. Six years ago today, Katie did me the honour of being one of my bridesmaids, so I knew we would travel over land and sea to be part of her day. Kim shot 95% of this celebration and did a stellar job, while I got to swan around in a pretty dress. Everything about this day was so perfect: the summer weather, the venues, the beautiful details, the abundance of laughter, and the relaxed atmosphere.
These two were married in Greytown at a friend’s house, a beautiful villa style home with a swimming pool and gorgeous gardens. Guests arrived the day before for the wedding rehearsal, which of course also included swimming and a BBQ.
Being well liked and loved, Hoani & Katie wanted to celebrate their wedding surrounded by heaps of friends and family. But as people who don’t seek out the spotlight, they also wanted to keep their wedding intimate. So they came up with a plan – have the ceremony filmed and then played back to the rest of the guests waiting for their arrival at the reception venue (held in the amazing Museum Building). The timing was perfect. We shot photos of the wedding party and bride & groom, hopped in the car and high tailed it to Wellington (about an hour’s drive), arriving just in time to see the video wrap up and allowing Hoani & Katie to be welcomed in with a roar of approval!
Kim and I are looking forward to shooting some more outdoor NZ weddings soon! We fly out in less than a week, and just need to survive the 30 hour journey with an 18 month old. Hmmm. Wish us luck!
