Look at that little face! It belongs to heart melter Amie who we were thrilled to spend some time with recently, along with the rest of the Saxby family when they invited us into their home to document a slice of life now that she’s around. The first thing we noticed during our visit was just how calm everything felt. Maybe that’s what happens when you have your third child – you’ve worked it all out. Amie has reflux and we could tell there were times when she was in a bit of pain by her cry, but Mark and Kerry weren’t flustered and just soothed and rocked and held her. The moments that really pulled at my heart were the ones with older siblings Kate and Sam who gently interacted with Amie, looking at her sweetly, holding her hands and stroking her head. So much love in this family.
We love photographing babies in their own home surrounded by objects and spaces that will become familiar to them as they grow. It feels real that way. Family members are more comfortable being who they are within the spaces they’ve shaped. It’s a privilege to be invited in for a few moments to listen and capture a small part of their story.
